H. A. P. P. Y. – Homework Assistance Program Preparing Youth
The Melvin Jones Foundation, Inc. is reaching out to low income and at risk children to help them succeed academically. The H. A. P. P. Y. program provides mentoring and instruction in a tutorial program for high-risk youth in Memphis, TN. This program fosters personal growth and academic achievement and assists students from first through fifth grades. This is a weekly academic skills program (reading, mathematics and study skills) augmented by a periodic series of enrichment activities. The Foundation also supports these “Jones H. A. P. P. Y. Scholars” with a mid-year backpack distribution program to replenish supplies as the students go into their second semester. A matching grant from Germantown Rotary Club was awarded to the Foundation to restock the Evans Elementary library and purchase Tablets for the students in the Homework Assistance program.
